Reference Recipe

  • Hook 4XL streamer hook, 4 to 8
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Eyes Lead/brass dumbbell (1 pair, large)
  • Tail Black or olive marabou (1 plume)
  • Flash Pearl Krystal Flash (4-6 strands)
  • Body Black or olive chenille (1)
  • Hackle Matching saddle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread near the eye and lash the large dumbbell on top of the shank a short way back with tight figure-8 wraps.
  2. Wind to the bend and tie in a marabou tail one shank length long plus a few strands of flash.
  3. Bind in the chenille and a saddle hackle by the tip at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward to just behind the eyes and tie off.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in five to six evenly spaced turns and lock it behind the eyes.
  6. Build a thread head between and in front of the dumbbell, whip finish, and cement.
