Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL-4XL streamer hook, 6 to 10
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Black tungsten bead (1)
  • Tail Olive (or black) marabou (1 plume)
  • Flash Pearl or olive Krystal Flash (4-6 strands)
  • Body Olive (or black) chenille (1)
  • Hackle Grizzly or matching saddle (1)
  • Legs Barred olive/black silicone rubber (2-3 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye, start thread behind it, and wrap a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail one shank length long and add a few strands of Krystal flash the same length.
  3. Bind in the chenille and a saddle hackle by the tip at the bend.
  4. Wind the chenille forward to just behind the bead and tie it off.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in five to six evenly spaced turns and lock it in behind the bead.
  6. Fold in two to three pairs of rubber legs along the sides with figure-8 wraps, whip finish behind the bead.
  7. Give the head a drop of cement; go sparse on the legs so they kick rather than clump.
