  • Hook standard dry fly hook

Materials

  • Body Foam strip, wrapped
  • Hackle Rooster or saddle hackle, wound 2 to 3 turns
  • Wing Elk hair

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread about an eye length behind the eye and dress the hook to the bend.
  2. Cut a foam strip about the width of the hook gap with a little wedge cut in the end and tie it in.
  3. Wrap the foam forward in touching wraps without pulling too tight, to make an even segmented body, then tie off and trim flush.
  4. Tie in a hackle feather, shiny side toward you, and wrap two to three turns.
  5. Tie off the hackle, trim the waste, and trim the hackle off the top.
  6. Clean and stack a small clump of elk hair and tie it in on top, extending to the end of the body or a little past, with a few tight wraps.
  7. Trim the butts, whip finish and trim the thread.
