How to tie it
Start the clear mono about halfway back through the bend and wrap smooth, tight touching turns forward until you're past the bend onto the shank.
Tie in the medium holographic silver tinsel with the thread hanging slightly behind the hook point; wrap the tinsel down into the bend about halfway, then turn around and wrap it back out again. This buried flash tag glints from the middle of the fly as it swims; tie off and trim.
Prepare the red spey hackle: strip a little of the fine stem and tie it in at the front of the tag, then advance the mono about a third of the distance from the tag to the back of the return eye.
Palmer the red feather up to the thread, fluffing the fibers free as you go so none are trapped; sweep the long fibers back and tie off.
Tie in the white spey hackle the same way and palmer it over the middle third; free any trapped barbs and tie off.
Tie in the blue spey hackle and palmer the final third, finishing right at the end of the bend-back return; sweep everything rearward and tie down.
Wrap a long, smooth mono nose from the feathers to the eye and whip finish.
Coat the mono nose with clear nail finish or head cement, the mono virtually disappears against the hook.
