Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Shellback Black foam (2mm strip)
  • Body Peacock ice dub (2-3 herls)
  • Legs Black rubber (2 pairs)
  • Indicator Hi-viz orange (Small dot on shellback)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread; bind a black foam strip at the bend, leaving a tag pointing back.
  2. Tie in 2-3 peacock herls and wrap a plump body forward to the 80% mark.
  3. Add a black rubber leg on each side with figure-8 wraps at mid-body, splayed out.
  4. Pull the foam forward over the top as a domed shellback and bind it down behind the eye.
  5. Trim the front foam to a short head tab and mark a small hi-viz dot on top so you can track it.
  6. Whip finish under the foam head.
