- Thread Brown Sheer 14/0
Materials
- Tying thread Sheer 14/0 brown
- Tail Hares mask guard hairs
- Rib Copper wire
- Body Hare, roe deer, Squirrel buggy dubbing blend
- Post Aero wing fine
- Hackle Brown and grizzle twisted
How to tie it
- Start the thread on a barbless curved size 12 hook.
- Tie in a few hare's mask guard hairs as a scruffy tail and trim to length.
- Spin the thread clockwise for a round profile and wrap under the tail to lift and spread it.
- Tie in 0.2 mm copper wire at the tail base to give weight at the back, taking about three turns of thread over the tail base.
- Tie in a small bunch of Aerowing fine for the post and cut the waste at a slight angle for the underbody foundation.
- Reinforce the base of the post; it does not need building up the full height.
- Split the thread, add the hare, roe deer and squirrel blend and dub the body.
- Rib the body with the copper wire and tie it off.
- Tie in a brown and a grizzly hackle at the base of the post, clip hackle pliers on both and twist them into a hackle rope.
- Wind the hackle rope around the post two or three times, then make a collar in front and tie off.
- Remove the hackle tips, add a little tying wax, pull everything back and whip finish.
- Trim the post to length as an indicator.
