Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Tail Brown hackle fibers (bunch)
  • Body White floss (slim)
  • Rib Brown hackle, palmered (sparse)
  • Wing Gray duck quill (upright)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Start white thread near the eye and tie in a pair of upright gray duck quill wings, then divide and post them.
  2. Wrap to the bend and tie in a bunch of brown hackle fibers as a tail one shank length long.
  3. Wrap a slim white floss body forward, stopping short of the wings.
  4. Tie in a brown hackle at the tail and palmer it sparsely forward over the floss body as a rib, then tie off behind the wings.
  5. Wrap a brown hackle as a collar in front of and behind the wings, then sweep excess back.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
