Materials

  • Bead Slotted Tungsten Bead (2.4mm - 2.8mm | Matte Black)
  • Weight Lead-Free Wire (.015)
  • Tail Barred Teal Flank (Purple or Olive)
  • Body Pheasant Tail (Purple)
  • Rib Ultra Wire (XS | Gunmetal Blue)
  • Legs Ostrich Herl (Black)
  • Flashback Holo Tinsel (Medium | Black)
  • Wing casing Solarez UV Color Resin
  • Finish Solarez Bone Dry

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and start the thread, pulling forward so the thread sits as far forward inside the bead as it can.
  2. Wrap lead-free wire behind the bead, pulling forward on the thread to keep the wire as far forward as possible, and encase the wraps with thread.
  3. Tie in 8 to 12 barred teal flank fibers as the tail, about the length of the body or a little longer.
  4. Tie in an extra-small gunmetal wire, a piece of four inches or more, behind the wire wraps; it is used for the rib and again for the legs.
  5. Trim three purple pheasant tail barbules, cut off about half an inch of the fine tips, and tie them in.
  6. Wrap the pheasant tail fibers back to form the body.
  7. Counter-wrap the wire forward as a rib in four or five turns and secure it, leaving the wire in place.
  8. Tie in a piece of medium black holo tinsel for the flashback.
  9. Tie in two black ostrich herls, soft ends trimmed, pushed into the slot of the bead, and wrap them back with the wire on the back side of the hook.
  10. Twist the wire and ostrich herl together about ten times and wrap them forward about two and a half turns, securing with thread.
  11. Pull the ostrich herl down on each side for legs and pull the tinsel forward over the top as a flashback, secure and trim.
  12. Whip finish.
  13. Add violet sparkle Solarez UV colour resin, guiding it down the sides, cure, add a little more, and cure again.
  14. Finish with a coat of Solarez Bone Dry over the top and cure.
