  • Hook 3XL curved nymph hook, 6-8
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (8-10 turns underbody)
  • Tail/Gills Tan ostrich or marabou (Short tuft)
  • Abdomen Tan/amber angora (Shaggy dubbing, gills picked out)
  • Rib Brown permanent marker (Fine wire)
  • Wingcase Dark turkey (1 section)
  • Legs Brown partridge/hen (1-2 turns)
  • Thorax Tan dubbing (Small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, wrap the shank with lead-free wire, and bind it down with thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a short tan ostrich or marabou tail for the tapered gill tips, and bind in the wire rib.
  3. Dub a soft, shaggy tan-amber abdomen over the back two-thirds and pick the sides out heavily to suggest the feathery gills.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib in 6-7 open turns to segment the abdomen and snip.
  5. Tie in a dark turkey wingcase pointing rearward and dub a fuzzy tan thorax.
  6. Fold the wingcase forward, bind it, and wind 1-2 turns of soft partridge as sprawling legs.
  7. Build a small head and whip finish.
