Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL curved nymph hook, 8-10
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (8-10 turns underbody)
  • Tail Brown partridge / pheasant (Short bunch)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown angora/hare (Shaggy dubbing)
  • Rib Brown permanent marker (Fine copper wire)
  • Wingcase Mottled turkey (1 section)
  • Legs/Collar Brown partridge (1-2 turns)
  • Head Dark olive material (Small pinch dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, wrap the mid-shank with lead-free wire, and cover it with thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a short partridge tail, one gap long, and bind in the copper rib.
  3. Dub a fat, shaggy olive-brown abdomen over the back two-thirds and pick it out so it looks fuzzy. The gills give it life.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib in 5-6 turns and snip.
  5. Tie in a mottled turkey wingcase pointing back, then dub a fuzzy thorax.
  6. Pull the wingcase forward over the thorax and bind it, then wind 1-2 turns of partridge as a leggy collar.
  7. Dub a small head, pick out the body once more, and whip finish.
