Reference Recipe

  • Hook Daiichi 1530 heavy wet/nymph hook, 8
  • Thread Fluorescent orange 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black mono (Medium, 1 pair)
  • Tail Natural grizzly mini marabou (1 feather)
  • Body Peach Estaz (1 strand)
  • Wingcase Mottled bustard Thin Skin (1 strip)
  • Legs Teal flank (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start the thread, and lash the black mono eyes in a figure-8 just behind the eye.
  2. Run the thread back to above the point and tie in a grizzly mini-marabou tail about one shank length long.
  3. Bind in a strip of mottled Thin Skin and a strand of peach Estaz at the tail, then advance the thread forward to just behind the eyes.
  4. Wrap the Estaz forward to behind the eyes and tie off, then trim the top of the body flat to seat the wingcase.
  5. Tie in a teal flank feather by the tip behind the eyes, take a few wet-fly turns for legs, and tie off.
  6. Fold the Thin Skin forward over the flattened body as a wingcase, bind it down in front of the eyes, and whip finish.
