  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (1, optional, sized to hook)
  • Tail Pheasant tail (3-4 fibers)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown pheasant tail (3-4 fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
  • Wingcase Dark pheasant tail (Small bunch)
  • Thorax Dark olive dubbing (Small pinch)
  • Legs Brown partridge (A few fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the optional bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start the thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a short, sparse pheasant-tail tail, one gap length long, and bind in the copper rib.
  3. Wrap a slim pheasant-tail abdomen over the back two-thirds, keeping it thread-thin. Baetis are skinny.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib in 5-6 turns and snip.
  5. Tie in a pheasant-tail wingcase bunch pointing rearward, then dub a small dark thorax.
  6. Pull the wingcase forward over the thorax, add a few partridge fibers as legs at each side, and bind down.
  7. Build a small head and whip finish.
