Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet-fly/nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Red 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (Crystal chenille or braided flash)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
  • Hackle Brown partridge (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start the thread behind the bead.
  2. Bind in the fine copper rib at the bend.
  3. Tie in the pearl crystal body material and wrap forward to just behind the bead, leaving room for the collar.
  4. Counter-wrap the rib in 4-5 open turns to protect the body and snip.
  5. Wind one turn of partridge as a soft-hackle collar and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Build a small thread head behind the bead and whip finish.
