Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph/emerger hook, 16-20
  • Thread Iron gray 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper (tungsten) bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail Brown hackle fibers (6-8 fibers, split)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown superfine (Thin pinch)
  • Thorax Adams gray superfine (Small pinch)
  • Legs Brown hackle fibers (A few, swept back)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the copper bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start the thread behind the bead.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and split a short tail of brown hackle fibers, one gap length long.
  3. Dub a thin, tapered olive-brown abdomen forward over the back half of the shank.
  4. Tie in a few brown hackle fibers on each side as legs, angled back toward the point.
  5. Dub a slightly darker Adams-gray thorax up behind the bead, covering the leg butts.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead.
