Tyer Recipe
Hook 1x-long dry fly, barbless, 10-12
Thread Black 70 denier
Materials
Craft foam, 3mm Red craft foam mm (1 rounded disc)
Round rubber legs White rubber legs small (3 in strand, folded)
Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
Start the black thread mid-shank. The whole fly is built at the middle of the hook.
Cut a rounded piece of 3mm red foam and catch it in on top at mid-shank with a pinch wrap; add several tight wraps, flatten the tie-down area, and leave the thread at the middle of the foam.
Fold the 3-inch piece of white rubber leg in half and set it on top with two or three loose wraps; work a leg off each side, then build a small band of progressively tighter wraps between them so they can't spin.
Prepare a grizzly dry-fly hackle with barbs about one-and-a-half hook gaps; tie the bare stem in ahead of the legs, binding it nearly to the eye, and trim.
Wind two turns of hackle in the middle between the legs, then lift the front of the foam and take four or five more turns in front. This is a heavily hackled fly.
Tie off and trim the hackle, sweep back stray barbs, and take just enough wraps for a small head without trapping fibers.
Whip finish, then cut the leg loops open and trim all four legs to length.
