Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless curved scud/nymph hook, 14-18
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Black tungsten bead (sized to hook)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (Ice Dub)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Brassie wire)
  • Hackle Black hackle (hen neck)
  • Legs Barred yellow rubber legs (Sexi Floss)
  • Wing Yellow mcflylon (stripped goose biots)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black tungsten bead to the eye, mount the curved hook, and start black thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in the copper Brassie wire, then dub a slim black Ice Dub body forward to the 65% mark.
  3. Rib the body with 4-5 open, evenly spaced turns of wire to segment it and add flash.
  4. Bind a strand of barred yellow Sexi Floss to each side as legs, reaching the hook point.
  5. Wind a black hen hackle one or two turns as a soft collar and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Tie two yellow goose biots in a short V over the back behind the bead for the wing.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and trim the legs to about one shank length.
