Slide a glass bead onto the hook (point first) and start the thread behind the eye, settling the bead just in front of the thread with a thread dam each side.
Advance the thread back to where the shank starts to curve down and tie in a clump of tailing fibres about the length of the straight shank.
Tie in a pre-soaked goose biot with the notch pointing down and the curve away from you, take the thread back up to the bead, and wrap the biot forward in smooth turns, then tie off and trim.
Prepare the wing: take the soft after-shaft (a pheasant rump or partridge after-shaft or hackle after-shaft feather), strip off waste fluff, and tie it in on top right behind the bead with the curve up and the fibres facing forward.
Dub a little superfine thorax right behind the bead.
Jump the thread in front of the bead, fold the after-shaft over the top so the fibres lie backwards, and tie it down, trimming the stem.
