Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap stinger/popper hook, 2-6
  • Thread Black 6/0 or 3/0

Materials

  • Body Chartreuse or white material (preformed foam or cork popper head)
  • Tail White/chartreuse material (marabou plus a few strands flash)
  • Collar Grizzly hackle (saddle hackle)
  • Legs Barred rubber legs (round rubber legs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the wide-gap hook and start thread, laying a thread base over the rear third of the shank as a gluing bed.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail about one and a half shank lengths long, then add a few strands of flash on each side.
  3. Wind a grizzly saddle hackle two or three turns in front of the tail as a collar and sweep it back.
  4. Slide the pre-slotted foam or cork popper body onto the shank over the thread bed and glue it in place, leaving room behind the eye.
  5. Anchor a pair of rubber legs on each side of the body with a needle and glue, or lash them at the body's rear.
  6. Whip finish the small thread band behind the hook eye and add a drop of cement.
  7. Let the glue cure fully before fishing so the head stays seated.
