Reference Recipe

  • Hook Ahrex TP650 Predator (jig/bench streamer hook), 2
  • Thread Fire orange (to match) 140 denier

Materials

  • Lead/dumbbell eyes Orange dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Tiger-barred rabbit strip (tail) Black-orange over yellow (fiery tiger) (1 short strip)
  • UV Estaz (body) Amber uv estaz (1 length)
  • Rubber/crazy legs Yellow round rubber (1 small bunch)
  • UV resin (head) Clear uv resin (As needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie the dumbbell eyes on the shank just ahead of the bend with figure-eight wraps; add glue. The fly rides hook-point-up, so tie everything on the 'upside-down' side.
  2. Tie in the tiger-barred rabbit strip as the tail at the bend, keeping it fairly short (about one shank length beyond the bend); secure and trim the butt.
  3. Tie in a length of UV Estaz and palmer it forward to just behind the eyes in touching turns, stroking the fibers back each wrap; tie off.
  4. Tie in rubber legs at the sides, fold them back, take a wrap over the legs, then take one wrap over and around the dumbbell eyes and one in front, and tie off.
  5. Trim the rubber legs to length.
  6. Whip finish, then coat the head and thread wraps with UV resin and cure with a light.
