Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy nymph/streamer hook, 4-8
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (bead chain)
  • Tail Rusty brown (marabou)
  • Rubber legs Brown silly legs nymph size (1-2 pairs)
  • Body Rusty brown/olive (coarse dubbing)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (palmered saddle)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and tie bead-chain eyes on top just behind the eye, then start brown thread.
  2. Bind a short rusty brown marabou tail about one shank length at the bend.
  3. Tie in a brown saddle hackle by the tip and a pair of rubber legs at the bend.
  4. Dub a rough, buggy body forward to just behind the eyes using coarse dubbing.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in 5-6 open turns and tie off behind the eyes, then sweep the fibers back.
  6. Figure-8 the thread around the eyes and build a small head in front.
  7. Whip finish and trim the rubber legs to about one shank length.
