Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy nymph/scud hook, curved, 6
  • Thread Olive 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (bead chain)
  • Weight Lead (.015 wire wraps)
  • Tail Light olive swannundaze (marabou)
  • Rubber legs Olive emu feather (2 pairs Loco Legs)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (Hare's Ear Plus dubbing)
  • Hackle Olive hackle (India hen back)
  • Hot head Hot orange arctic fox (thread collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lash black bead-chain eyes on top, a bit back from the eye, then start olive thread.
  2. Wrap a short underbody of lead wire behind the eyes to sink it fast, and bind it down.
  3. Tie in a short light olive marabou tail about one shank length at the bend.
  4. Bind a pair of olive rubber legs on each side, then dub a fat, buggy olive body forward to just behind the eyes.
  5. Wind an olive hen hackle one or two turns as a soft collar and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Figure-8 around the eyes, then build a hot orange thread head in front of the eyes as the trigger.
  7. Whip finish at the hot head and trim the rubber legs to about one shank length.
