Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, #4-#8
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Conehead Gold or copper conehead (1, sized to hook)
  • Copper wire Copper wire (small, for rib)
  • Sparkle dubbing (Ice Dub) Olive/pearl sparkle dubbing (for body)
  • Pine squirrel zonker strip Natural, olive or rust pine squirrel zonker strip (1 strip)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the conehead onto the hook to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread behind the cone.
  2. Tie in the copper wire at the rear, above the hook point.
  3. Dub a slim sparkle-dubbing body forward, stopping just behind the cone.
  4. Tie in the pine squirrel strip just behind the cone so it lies over the top of the body, extending about one hook-length past the bend as a tail.
  5. Spiral the copper wire forward through the strip to bind it to the body, and tie off behind the cone.
  6. Wrap the remaining butt of the squirrel strip a couple of turns around the shank behind the cone to form a soft collar; tie off.
  7. Whip finish behind the cone.
