Materials
Bead 2.4mm brass bead
Weight 0.015 lead-free wire, 2-3 wraps
Tail Spade-style hackle fibres from the edge of a neck saddle
Abdomen Dark olive-brown dubbing
Wing case Cream saddle fibres
Thorax Light Cahill superfine dubbing
How to tie it
Slide the bead onto the hook and add two or three wraps of 0.015 lead-free wire behind it just to hold the bead in place.
Start light Cahill thread and take it back into the bend of the hook.
Tie in a modest clump (a little over a quarter inch) of spade-style hackle fibres taken from the edge of a neck saddle as the tail, then trim to a little shorter than the thread body.
Build the body taper by wrapping the thread back and forth, then take the thread to the tail.
Dub a smooth, tight abdomen of dark olive-brown dubbing, keeping the back end thin.
Tie in cream saddle fibres (about 3/8 inch) by pinch wrap for the wing case, fold the ends over and wrap back to about even with the hook point.
Dub a fuller thorax of light Cahill superfine.
Stretch the saddle fibres over the top, catch them with two wraps, then split them half and half and tie each half back individually at roughly 45 degrees to the hook.
Whip finish behind the bead, trim the thread, and trim the wing stubs to a little less than halfway down the abdomen.
Put a little clear nail polish on the head and wing case.
