Barr's Emerger PMD

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry/emerger hook, 16-20
  • Thread Pale yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Light dun wing bud (hackle fibers)
  • Abdomen Pale yellow-olive material (fine dubbing)
  • Thorax Amber-brown material (fine dubbing)
  • Legs Light dun rubber legs (a few hackle fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start pale yellow thread, running it back to the bend.
  2. Bind a short, splayed tail of light dun hackle fibers about half a shank long.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered pale yellow-olive abdomen forward to the 60% mark with sparse dubbing.
  4. Tie a few light dun fibers along each side of the thorax as legs, reaching the hook point.
  5. Dub a slightly darker amber-brown thorax over the leg butts up to the eye.
  6. Whip finish and cement lightly, leaving the abdomen ungreased so it sinks into the film.
