  • Hook Barbless heavy 2XL nymph/steelhead hook, 6-10

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black tungsten bead (sized to hook)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (2 goose biots)
  • Abdomen Copper thorax stripe (Ultra Wire, medium)
  • Legs Brown/black rubber legs (round rubber legs)
  • Wingcase Pearl/black wing slip (flash under Thin Skin)
  • Thorax Natural case (peacock herl)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye, mount the heavy hook, and start black thread behind the bead.
  2. Bind two brown biots as a split V tail about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the copper wire and wrap a tight, even abdomen to the 55% mark; the wire is the whole body, so keep the wraps touching.
  4. Tie in a strand of flash and a strip of Thin Skin over the back, then bind a length of rubber leg to each side.
  5. Wrap 2-3 peacock herls into a fat thorax, figure-eighting to keep the legs splayed.
  6. Pull the flash then the Thin Skin over the thorax and bind behind the bead as the wingcase.
  7. Whip finish, trim the legs to about one shank length each, and coat the wingcase with UV resin.
