Classic Recipe

  • Hook 4x streamer, 4-8
  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Red hackle fibers (small)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel (smooth)
  • Wing Yellow bucktail, then white, then 2 red & 2 grizzly hackles (layered)
  • Hackle White, collar (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Start red thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of red hackle fibers as a tail.
  3. Catch in flat silver tinsel and wrap a smooth body forward to behind the eye, then tie off.
  4. Build the wing in layers over the body: first a sparse bunch of yellow bucktail, then white bucktail over it, then 2 red and 2 grizzly saddle hackles set flat along each side.
  5. Wrap a white hackle as a collar, 2 turns, and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
