Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless 1XL nymph hook, 14-20
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (sized to hook)
  • Tail Ringneck (pheasant tail fibers)
  • Abdomen Natural case (pheasant tail fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Thorax Natural case (peacock herl)
  • Legs Ringneck (pheasant tail tips)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the copper bead to the eye, mount the barbless hook, and start brown thread at the bend.
  2. Bind 5-6 pheasant tail fibers with tips trailing half a shank length as the tail.
  3. Tie in the copper wire, then wrap the fiber bundle forward to the 65% mark and lock it with 4-5 counter-wrapped turns of wire.
  4. Wrap two peacock herls into a plump thorax behind the bead.
  5. Fold a small clump of pheasant fibers to each side as legs, reaching the hook point.
  6. Trim the leg butts, build a small thread collar, and whip finish behind the bead.
