Barbless Beadhead Flashwing Prince

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Barbless 2XL curved nymph hook, 12-18
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (sized to hook)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (2 goose biots, split)
  • Body Natural case (peacock herl)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine oval tinsel)
  • Wings Pearl anti static bag strip (Krystal Flash)
  • Collar Brown permanent marker (hen hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye, mount the barbless hook, and start black thread at the bend.
  2. Bind two brown biots into a short split V tail about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the gold tinsel, then wrap a plump peacock herl body forward to just behind the bead.
  4. Counter-rib with 4-5 open turns of gold tinsel to armor the herl.
  5. Lay a small bunch of pearl Krystal Flash flat over the back as wings, splitting into a V that reaches the hook point.
  6. Wind a brown hen hackle for one or two turns as a soft collar, then sweep the fibers back.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
