Materials

  • Tail Brown goose biots, two, split
  • Flashback Mirage tinsel, medium
  • Rib Small gold tinsel (round or oval)
  • Body Peacock herl, about three strands
  • Wing White turkey or goose biots, two, crossed over the top
  • Thorax Blend of brown stonefly, black stonefly and peacock synthetic dubbing

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread right behind the bead and take it to the back of the hook.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots on top as a split tail.
  3. Tie in the small gold tinsel at the front and build a taper back down.
  4. Tie in the medium Mirage tinsel so that it will go over the peacock herl.
  5. Tie in about three strands of peacock herl, build a taper, and wind the herl forward to the back of the bead; tie off and trim.
  6. Bring the Mirage tinsel over the top of the fly: one wrap in front of the body and two behind the bead to lock it, then cut.
  7. Rib the fly with the gold tinsel, winding it the opposite way to the peacock so the herl is protected.
  8. Tie in two white biots on top of each other at the end of the body, cross them over the top, tie them down and clip them.
  9. Dub a loose thorax right behind the bead, take the thread forward, whip finish and clean up stray peacock strands.
