Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard popper / streamer, #1/0-4
  • Thread White 3/0

Materials

  • Tail White / chartreuse material (Bucktail + flash, 1.5x hook length)
  • Collar Pearl anti static bag strip (Estaz or cactus chenille)
  • Head Assorted material (Pre-formed foam cylinder popper head)
  • Eyes Yellow / black material (Stick-on, one each side)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
  2. Tie in a bucktail tail about one and a half hook lengths long, with a few strands of flash, and add a drop of superglue on the wraps for durability.
  3. Tie in Estaz at the base of the tail and take a few turns as a collar, then tie off and build a smooth thread base up front.
  4. Coat the front thread wraps with head cement or Hard-as-Nails and let them dry, this glue bed grips the foam.
  5. Slide the pre-formed foam cylinder head over the hook eye and back onto the shank, seating it against the collar so the head is interchangeable.
  6. Add a drop of adhesive to lock the head, then press a stick-on eye onto each side.
  7. Whip is not needed on the foam head. The thread was already finished under it.
