Bead Slotted tungsten bead, seated on a balancing pin (3/32-5/32 in)
Balance pin Sequin pin or small nail (3/4 in)
Tail Olive or black marabou (one shank length)
Flash Pearl Flashabou or Krystal Flash (2-4 strands)
Body Arizona Simi Seal or Ice Dub (as needed)
How to tie it
Slide the tungsten bead onto the pin, then lay the pin along the top of the jig-hook shank so the bead sits well forward of the eye. Wrap thread tightly over the pin to lock it, then snip off the excess pin. This forward ballast is what makes the fly ride horizontally when suspended.
Tie in a slim marabou tail about one shank length long at the bend. Keep it sparse so it breathes rather than fouls.
Add 2-4 strands of pearl flash over the tail, trimmed to tail length.
Build a dubbing loop or dub directly, forming a shaggy body from the bend forward to just behind the bead. Pick out the fibers with a bodkin so the fly looks buggy and mobile.
Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of head cement where the thread meets the pin.
