Materials

  • Weight 4 mm tungsten bead on a satin/sewing pin
  • Tail Grizzly marabou
  • Body Ice dub, golden brown for tan (semi-seal also used)
  • Pectoral fins / collar Short stiff grizzly marabou, palmered
  • Adhesive Scotch brand super glue

How to tie it

  1. Slide a 4 mm tungsten bead onto a sewing pin whose head stops the bead.
  2. Lay a thread base on the hook, put a drop of super glue on it, and tie the pin on leaving a gap equal to the bead diameter between the pin's bead and the tie-in point.
  3. Tie in a marabou plume with longer fibres as the tail: preen the fibres back, pinch them, and secure with two loose wraps so the tail flares evenly; trim.
  4. Dub a thin body of ice dub in touching turns up to the 90-degree bend where the pin connection begins.
  5. Pick a shorter, stiffer grizzly marabou feather, strip a few fibres at the tip, tie it in by the stem, and palmer it forward, preening the fibres back each turn, to the bead.
  6. Tie the feather down, trim the stem, pull the fibres back, and add a little ice dub to push them back.
  7. Whip finish twice and put super glue over the thread wraps.
