Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60° jig or straight scud hook, #10-14
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Balance pin Steel balance pin (Sequin/balance pin, extends past eye)
  • Bead Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (Slotted tungsten on the pin)
  • Tail Black / olive / brown material (Marabou, one clump)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (A few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Match tail (Leech dubbing or micro chenille)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead onto the balance pin, then mount the hook in the vise.
  2. Add a drop of superglue over the pin wraps and let it grab.
  3. At the bend, tie in a marabou tail one shank length long with a couple strands of pearl flash.
  4. Dub a slim, slightly tapered body forward, or wrap micro chenille, right up behind the bead.
  5. Sweep any stray fibers back, build a small collar, and whip finish behind the bead.
