Baitfish Bass

Nymph · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard streamer / stinger, #1/0-4
  • Thread White 6/0

Materials

  • Belly White uni stretch (Bucktail, a sparse clump)
  • Flash Pearl / silver flash (Krystal Flash or Flashabou)
  • Back Olive or chartreuse material (Bucktail, sparse clump)
  • Eyes Yellow / black material (3D stick-on, sized to head)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base from the eye to just short of the bend.
  2. At the front third, tie in a sparse white bucktail belly angling back past the bend about one and a half shank lengths. Keep it thin and let it flare.
  3. Tie in several strands of pearl flash the same length as a lateral line.
  4. Stack a matching clump of olive or chartreuse bucktail on top as the back, so the fly shows a dark-over-light baitfish profile.
  5. Wrap a smooth tapered thread head, building the front into a bullet shape.
  6. Whip finish, then coat the head with cement or UV resin and press a 3D eye onto each side.
  7. Give the head a second coat over the eyes to lock them in.
