Materials

  • Tail Ringneck (Three or four pheasant tail fibers)
  • Abdomen Ringneck (Pheasant tail fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
  • Wingcase Ringneck (Pheasant tail fibers, pulled over)
  • Thorax Peacock / olive collar accent (Peacock herl or olive dubbing)
  • Legs Ringneck (Wingcase tips folded back)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a slim bunch of pheasant tail fibers, leaving the tips out as a short tail one third of a shank long.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire, then wrap the pheasant fibers forward as a slim abdomen to the 65% mark and tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 turns and tie off. Counter-wrapping keeps the fragile fibers from splitting.
  5. Tie in a fresh bunch of pheasant tail by the tips for the wingcase, then build a slim peacock or olive thorax.
  6. Pull the wingcase over the thorax and tie down, then fold the leftover tips back along each side as legs.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and snip. Keep the whole fly needle-slim.
