How to tie it
Start brown 8/0 thread and tie in a short tail of partridge barbs at the bend, no longer than half the shank.
Wrap tungsten wire over the thorax area only and bind it down. Vasies uses tungsten rather than lead here specifically because it lets him keep the body slim, a fat underbody ruins the profile of a small baetis nymph.
Tie in a yellow-dyed goose biot by the tip at the bend and wrap it forward to the 65% mark, edge overlapping, so the notched edge produces a hard segmented rib as you go.
Tie in the body thread for the wingcase at the front of the biot body, then dub a small yellow squirrel thorax over the tungsten.
Pull the body thread forward over the thorax as a back and tie it down, then tie in partridge barbs each side as legs and sweep them back alongside the body.
Whip finish a small head. Tied light or only lightly weighted this fishes on dry fly tackle; tied heavier it works as the upper fly above a heavy point nymph.
