Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, 6-10
  • Thread Brown or olive 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Body Chenille or dubbing (slim)
  • Wingcase Thin Skin (folded over)
  • Eyes Bead chain or lead (1 pair, on top)
  • Bead Tungsten bead (1)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a tungsten bead onto the jig hook. The jig hook is not optional here. It rides point-up so the fly can sit in silt without snagging or fouling.
  2. Tie in two pairs of rubber legs at the bend as the tail.
  3. Build a slim body forward with chenille or dubbing.
  4. Tie in a strip of Thin Skin, dub a slightly wider thorax, and fold the Thin Skin over as a wingcase.
  5. Tie bead chain or lead eyes on TOP of the shank, combined with the jig hook, this guarantees hook-point-up on the bottom.
  6. Whip finish.
