Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap jig hook, barbless, #12 (10-14)
  • Thread Orange or black 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Silver/gold slotted tungsten bead (1, 4.6mm)
  • Holographic tinsel/braid Pearl or rainbow (body)
  • Fine wire Copper/silver fine wire (short length (rib))
  • Rabbit or fur To match ep minnow head brush in (sparse (soft-hackle collar))
  • Hot thread collar Fluorescent orange thread (hot spot)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the big 4.6mm slotted bead to the jig eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a bright tinsel/braid body material and a length of fine wire at the bend.
  3. Wrap the tinsel forward in touching turns to just behind the bead for a flashy body and tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 5-6 open turns to rib and protect the body; helicopter to break.
  5. Spin a sparse loop or clump of fur and wrap 1-2 turns as a soft 'hackle' collar, then sweep the fibers back.
  6. Build a hot orange thread collar right behind the bead as a hot spot; whip finish and cement.
