Head White, topped grey (glow bug yarn, packed and trimmed)
Eyes (5 mm 3D eyes in five-minute epoxy)
How to tie it
Start 6/0 thread where the head will meet the body and lay a base back to the barb, whip finish and set it aside. That reserved rear thread is what will lock the matuka wing down later.
Bring 12/0 in over the same wraps, split it, load pearl Ice Dub loosely, spin, brush out and wrap it forward edge to edge, sweeping the fibers back with your fingers.
Prepare the charcoal grey rabbit strip: trim the hide flush with the fur, cut it on a taper with the fur pushed to one side, then thin the hide with curved scissors so it swims rather than plates.
Tie the wing in by the tip in front of the dubbing, measured at twice the length of the dubbed body, then pull it back, part the fur down to the reserved rear thread and bind the hide to the bare hook there.
Spin cross cut charcoal grey rabbit in a split thread and wrap it as a collar in front of the wing, then add Shimmer Fringe on each side and a second spun collar of grey fox fur.
Add an orange and yellow rabbit throat tight under the collar and two grizzly hen tips as gills, then wrap lead wire round the whole rear to keep it clear.
Build the head from white glow bug yarn, four pieces per segment worked forward to the eye, comb it out at right angles, trim it flat on the sides and tapered top and bottom, colour the top grey and epoxy the 5 mm eyes in.
