How to tie it
Start the Semperfli Nano Silk 12/0 white where the return eye ends on the Daiichi Alec Jackson size 5, lay a base back level with the hook point, and snip the tag.
Fold a length of 0.015 lead wire in half, set it parallel to the shank along the threaded area and bind it down, then flatten it with pliers and trim flush with the wraps. Build the thread back up over it.
Fold the Small Silver Wire in half and bind it under the hook from the thread start to the end of the lead. Whip finish the 12/0, twist the wire and push it aside — this is the matuka rib.
Start the 18/0, build a base and coat the whole wrap with head cement. Split the thread, wax it, add Chartreuse Ice Dubbing loosely, spin it with a dubbing twister, comb it out, and wrap it edge to edge with hackle pliers, pulling the fibers back with your fingers as you go. Secure, trim and comb.
Measure a Chartreuse dyed rabbit strip with black bars on top of the hook: the wing is twice the length of the dubbed section. Cut the hide flush with the fur, trim the strip into a cone, and thin the hide with curved scissors — sweep the fur to one side before you cut.
Bind the wing tip on top of the hook in front of the dubbing, then lash the rest of the strip down matuka style with the silver wire at a slight angle and equal spacing, parting the fur and dubbing with a bodkin at each turn. Secure the wire, trim, whip finish and comb. At the rear, divide the fur evenly and take about twelve turns of thread around the hide, whip finish, trim and glue.
Start the thread again just in front of the wing. Split it, lay White Fox Fur between the strands, trim evenly, spin with the twister, comb, and wrap edge to edge in front of the wing, pulling the fibers back. Secure, trim, whip finish and comb.
Take a section of the same rabbit strip as the wing and spin and wrap it exactly as the fox fur, in front of it.
Bind a small section of Orange and Yellow rabbit fur, hide on, under the hook tight against the collar as the throat. Trim, whip finish.
Fasten one Dyed Green Hen Hackle Tip on each side of the collar as gills, cut the stems and whip finish. Wrap a scrap of lead wire around the collar, throat and gills to hold them out of the way, and head-cement the thread.
Split three sections of white Glo Bug yarn into four pieces each. Tie two pieces left and right of the head, then two top and bottom on the same wrap; pull all fibers back and secure the thread in front. Repeat forward to the eye, whip finish, trim and glue. Comb the yarn out at right angles to the hook, trim the sides flat with long-bladed scissors, narrow the top and bottom with curved scissors, then touch the high spots with a lighter flame.
Color the top half of the head with a green permanent marker, remove the caging wire and comb the fly. Out of the vise, add black and red parr marks with markers, then apply 5-minute epoxy to the middle of each side of the head, let it soak in, add a second layer and set the 4mm 3D eyes.
