Classic Recipe

  • Hook Tiemco 5263 / Daiichi 2220 4XL streamer, 2-10
  • Thread brown 3/0 Monocord

Materials

  • Cone Copper or gold brass cone (1)
  • Weight Lead wire (8-12 wraps)
  • Tail Brown marabou (1 plume)
  • Flash Copper Krystal Flash (4 strands)
  • Rib Copper wire, Brassie size (1 length)
  • Body Medium brown chenille (1 length)
  • Legs Yellow round rubber legs (2 strands (4 legs))
  • Hackle Yellow grizzly/barred saddle (1)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the cone to the eye, wrap the lead behind it and jam it into the cone recess.
  2. Tie in a brown marabou tail one shank length long with copper Krystal Flash down each side.
  3. Tie in the copper wire rib, then the chenille, at the tail base; tie in the yellow saddle hackle by the butt just behind the cone.
  4. Wrap the chenille body forward in touching turns to the cone and tie off.
  5. Palmer the yellow hackle rearward over the body in 5-6 open turns, catch its tip with the wire at the bend, then counter-wrap the wire forward through the hackle. Counter-wrapping locks the stem so trout teeth can't unravel it.
  6. Tie in a rubber-leg strand on each side at mid-shank with a figure-eight so two legs kick out per side, whip finish behind the cone.
