  • Hook Standard steelhead/salmon wet hook, #4 (2-8)
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Hackle fibers Hot orange hackle fibers (small bunch (tail))
  • Oval tinsel Gold oval tinsel (short length (rib))
  • Dubbing or seal fur Antique gold (body)
  • Hackle Hot orange hackle (1 feather (collar))
  • Calf tail White calf body hair (sparse bunch (wing))

How to tie it

  1. Start black thread and tie in a small bunch of hot orange hackle fibers at the bend for a tail about a shank-quarter long.
  2. Catch in a length of oval gold tinsel for the rib.
  3. Dub or wrap a slim gold body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Rib the body with 5-6 evenly spaced open turns of gold tinsel and tie off.
  5. Tie in a hot orange hackle by the tip and wind 2-3 turns as a soft collar, then stroke the fibers down and rearward.
  6. Tie a sparse wing of white calf tail over the top, reaching to the end of the tail.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and cement.
