Rib Orange silk with a wisp of red-tinged rabbit fur (4 turns)
Wing Mallard breast feather, lightly brown-tinged (1 bunch)
Hackle Medium olive cock (hen for wet) (1 feather)
How to tie it
Start the yellow silk behind the eye and wrap to the bend. Tie in two medium olive fibers as a forked tail.
Dub yellow-olive wool sparsely on the yellow silk and wind a slim body to the 70% mark.
Rib with four open turns of orange silk spun with a whisper of reddish rabbit fur, that warm rib copies the brindled brown abdomen of the natural (the autumn dun's big sister, Ecdyonurus dispar).
Tie in a rolled bunch of lightly brown-tinged mallard breast as the wing, upright for a dry or swept back for the traditional North Country wet.
Wind 3-4 turns of medium olive hackle.
Whip finish over the yellow silk head and varnish.
