Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2X-heavy curved scud hook, #14 (10-16)
  • Thread Red 6/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Red or copper tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Flashabou Red holographic tinsel (several strands (body))
  • V-Rib or clear stretch tubing Red or clear v rib stretch tubing (short length (shell))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a bead to the eye, start red thread and wrap to the bend and back to the bead to build a thin base.
  2. At the bend tie in several strands of red Flashabou and a length of V-Rib, leaving the rib hanging.
  3. Wrap the Flashabou forward in touching turns to the bead for a bright underbody and tie off.
  4. Wrap the V-Rib forward over the Flashabou in even, slightly spaced turns so the flash glows through the translucent shell; stop and tie off behind the bead.
  5. Build a small red thread collar behind the bead, whip finish, and lock with a drop of cement.
