Wingcase Blue kingfisher or dyed blue feather (bright flash)
Legs Furnace hen (sparse)
How to tie it
Start brown thread and lay a base to the bend.
Tie in a few furnace hackle fibers as a sparse tail, half a shank length long.
Catch in oval gold tinsel at the tail base.
Blend hare's ear with a touch of hot orange and dub a tapered body up to the 65% mark. Rib forward with the oval gold in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
Tie in a bright blue feather section (kingfisher or dyed blue) over the thorax area to be folded forward. This blue glint is Atherton's signature.
Dub a slightly fuller thorax of the same blend.
Fold the blue feather forward over the thorax as a wingcase and bind it down.
Tie in a few furnace hen fibers each side as sparse legs sweeping back.
