Nine or ten turns of the 0.020 lead wire just forward of halfway on the 1x long nymph hook; don't crowd the eye, the hackle needs that room. Start the black thread, build a dam behind the wire, then go straight up front and dam in front so it can't shift.
Thread back to the start of the bend. Tail: 3-4 ring-necked pheasant tail fibers, slightly shorter than the shank. Bind forward to where the wire starts; no taper needed under a buggy body.
Catch in the oval tinsel and bind it back to the tail; trim any shag.
Wax the thread and dub hare's ear pulled straight from the mask, guard hairs and all, in a fairly tight noodle with a little taper forward. Stop short of the front, adding dubbing if the noodle runs out.
Counter-wrap about four turns of tinsel, not too close together; the rib helps hold the hare's ear in. Catch off and trim.
Wing case: tie the blue floss in a little to the side, then fold it back forward so it lies two strand-widths wide.
Thorax: a good-sized clump of hare's ear in a fairly tight noodle. If it comes out buggier than you want, pull some out.
Bring the floss over with a pinch wrap, settling it on top before tightening, then lock it down and trim.
Partridge: a feather from the middle of the wing with the fluff stripped. Lock the soft stem in tight before wrapping or it pulls out. One turn, one and a half if you can get it, with hackle pliers, preening the fibers back and not letting the feather roll. Two wraps to lock, trim the tip.
Push a little of the partridge off to each side so the wing case shows from behind. A modest head, three or four turn whip finish, head cement.
