Reference Recipe

  • Hook Articulated: streamer/saltwater hooks joined by braid or shank, Rear #1-2, front 1/0-2/0
  • Thread White (to match) 210 denier

Materials

  • Connection Braided loop or wire + beads (1 hinge)
  • Rear tail Saddle hackles + flash (4-6 hackles)
  • Collars Bucktail, white to dark (2 clumps)
  • Topping Peacock herl or flash (Few strands)
  • Eyes Stick-on eyes (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start with the rear hook: mount it, start thread, and tie in 4-6 splayed saddle hackles a shank-and-a-half long, framed with a few strands of flash.
  2. Wrap a sparse bucktail collar around the rear shank sweeping back, then whip finish and cement.
  3. Build the hinge: thread a braided loop (or wire) through the rear hook eye, add 2-3 beads, and lash it firmly to the front hook so the joint swings freely.
  4. On the front hook, tie a bucktail collar around the shank, white on the bottom grading to darker on top, kept sparse.
  5. Add a topping of peacock herl or flash over the back for a lateral line.
  6. Stick on the eyes, build a smooth thread head, whip finish, and coat the head with epoxy or UV resin.
