Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Barbless dry hook (Fulling Mill Grab Gape), 12-16
  • Thread Yellow or tan 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Pale yellow Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)
  • Wings Tan Ultra Dry Yarn, layered, downwing (1)
  • Post Hi-vis Ultra Dry Yarn (1)
  • Hackle Natural gray/ginger CDC wrapped around post (1-2)
  • Thorax/legs Pale yellow Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)
  • Hot spot Red/orange at the head (optional) (small)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and dub a pale yellow Ultra Dry body forward to the thorax for the little yellow stone silhouette.
  2. Tie in layered tan Ultra Dry Yarn as a low caddis/stonefly-style downwing over the body.
  3. Erect a hi-vis Ultra Dry Yarn post and tie in CDC around its base.
  4. Wrap the CDC parachute-style for a high-floating footprint.
  5. Dub a pale yellow thorax to suggest legs, adding a small red/orange hot spot at the head if desired.
  6. Whip finish and cement lightly.
