Classic Recipe

• Hook Barbless dry hook, 1X-long (Fulling Mill Grab Gape), 10-14
• Thread Black or purple 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

• Body Purple/peacock Ultra Dry Dub or synthetic (pinch)
• Legs Knotted pheasant tail or Spanflex, splayed (6-8)
• Wings Layered Ultra Dry Yarn, natural (1)
• Post Hi-vis Ultra Dry Yarn (1)
• Hackle Natural gray CDC wrapped around post (1-2)

How to tie it

1. Start thread and dub a purple/peacock Ultra Dry body along the shank for the daddy-long-legs (crane fly) abdomen.
2. Prepare 6-8 pheasant tail or Spanflex legs with a knot in each, and tie them in splayed to the sides and rear, three per side, so they sprawl on the surface.
3. Tie in layered Ultra Dry Yarn wings and erect a hi-vis post.
4. Wrap CDC parachute-style around the post base for buoyancy.
5. Whip finish and cement; treat wing, post and legs lightly with floatant so the leggy fly floats high.
