Arnot's New Age Koors Light

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Barbless dry hook (Fulling Mill Grab Gape), 12-16
  • Thread Tan or pale 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers (1 small bunch)
  • Body Pale/light dun Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)
  • Wings Pale/light Ultra Dry Yarn, layered (1)
  • Post Chartreuse or hi-vis Ultra Dry Yarn (1)
  • Hackle Natural gray/light CDC wrapped around post (1-2)
  • Thorax/legs Pale Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a few Coq de Leon fibers as a split tail about one shank length; the stiff fibers cock and balance the fly.
  2. Dub a slim pale Ultra Dry body forward to the thorax.
  3. Tie in layered pale Ultra Dry Yarn wings and erect a hi-vis Ultra Dry Yarn post for visibility.
  4. Tie in CDC and wrap it parachute-style around the post base; the CDC-wrapped post floats high and suspends a nymph dropper in fast water.
  5. Dub a pale thorax around the post to suggest legs.
  6. Whip finish and cement lightly, treating only the wing/post with floatant.
