Arnot's New Age Caddis

Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Barbless caddis/dry hook (Fulling Mill 5025), 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Tan Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)
  • Wings Tan and brown Ultra Dry Yarn, layered (1 each)
  • Post Chartreuse Ultra Dry Yarn (over black Para Post) (1)
  • Hackle Natural gray CDC, wrapped around post (1-2)
  • Thorax/legs Tan Ultra Dry Dub (pinch)
  • Adhesive Superglue (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and dub a tan Ultra Dry Dub body forward to the thorax area.
  2. Tie in layered tan and brown Ultra Dry Yarn as a tent-style caddis down-wing over the body, securing with a touch of superglue for durability.
  3. Erect a post of chartreuse Ultra Dry Yarn (over a black Para Post base) for high visibility.
  4. Tie in natural gray CDC and wrap it around the base of the post parachute-style; the CDC-wrapped post lets the fly suspend weight and stay stable in fast current.
  5. Dub a tan thorax around the post base to suggest legs.
  6. Whip finish at the head and cement.
